JAZZ SEMICONDUCTOR RECEIVES CONTROL ENGINEERING EDITORS'
CHOICE AWARD FOR VERTICAL PNP MODULE
Enhanced Specialty CMOS Process Optimizes Analog
Circuit Design
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., January 31, 2006 -- Jazz Semiconductor,
an independent wafer foundry focused primarily on specialty CMOS
process technologies, today announced that Control Engineering magazine
has selected the company's Vertical PNP Module for its 2005 "Editors'
Choice Award."
Pushing beyond the capability of standard CMOS (complementary metal-oxide
semiconductor) -based analog circuit design, Jazz Semiconductor's
17GHz Vertical PNP module is available on its 0.35 and 0.18 micron
RFCMOS and SiGe BiCMOS platforms. The module advances analog circuit
design especially for high voltage, complementary drive, or amplification
requirements in products such as hard disk drive pre-amps and motor
controllers. The Vertical PNP module is designed to enable greater
integration than currently available with existing CMOS, RFCMOS,
and BiCMOS products.

"The Vertical PNP process feature was developed to address
a market requirement for advanced analog integration," said
Marco Racanelli, vice president of technology and engineering, Jazz
Semiconductor. "This award from Control Engineering validates
our commitment to respond to our customers' needs quickly and effectively
by providing customized solutions that reduce die cost and size."
Jazz processes are built upon the concept of modularity, which is
realized by the addition of advanced modules, such as the Vertical
PNP, to industry standard CMOS technology, enabling circuit designers
to reduce their bill of materials, or die cost by increasing the
number of functions contained on a single die. The Vertical PNP
joins various existing module options available to Jazz customers
on its 0.18µm and 0.35µm platforms, including high speed
SiGe devices, high-density capacitors, resistors, inductors, varactors
and various CMOS transistor options (1.8, 3.3, 5 and 8V).
Jazz Semiconductor's Vertical PNP Module was selected from among
new products and solutions featured in issues of Control Engineering,
Control Engineering Online or one of Control Engineering's topical
e-newsletters. The January 2006 edition showcases the Editors' Choice
Award for products covered by the publication in 2005. Criterion
for these 19th annual awards is based on service to the industry,
technological advancement and market impact.
As one of the Editors' Choice Award winners, Jazz Semiconductor's
Vertical PNP Module is eligible for Control Engineering's prestigious
"Editors' Choice Award," to be announced at the National
Manufacturing Week trade show in March 2006 (www.manufacturingweek.com).
Control Engineering will survey its subscribers to select winners
for the "Editors' Choice Award." For more about the awards,
